\P1.5\\S1.5\\cProperties (Files|Properties, Alt+Enter)\f
The File Properties command brings up a File Properties dialog for the\
current file (disallowed for parent directories). The dialog contains the\
following information and buttons:
\I\I\I\I\I
Name This field contains the full name of the file. It is\
editable -- the file can be renamed by editing the text.
Path This field contains the path in which the file is\
located. If the path is longer than 48 characters, it will be abbreviated.\
This field is not editable.
Type This field describes the type of file (e.g. Application,\
Normal File, Directory, Socket, Character special file, etc.). If the file\
is associated with an application, the descriptive name for the document\
type is given.
Link of If the file is a symbolic link, this field displays the\
file to which the link points. Otherwise, the field is left blank.
Document of If the file is a document, this field displays the\
command used to run the file.
Created This field displays the time and date of the file's\
creation.
Last Modified This field displays the time and date when the file was\
last modified.
Last Accessed This field displays the time and date of the last access\
to the file.
Size This field shows the size, in bytes, of the file.
Number of Links This field shows the number of hard links to this file.
Owner/Group This field shows the owner and group of the file. If\
possible, the exact name from the password database is given. Otherwise,\
the numeric user id and group id is shown.
Permissions These checkboxes show the permissions for the file. If\
you are the file's owner or the superuser, you may change the permissions.\
Otherwise, these checkboxes will be disabled.
Edit Shadow File	This button permits you to edit or create the shadow file\
for an application. If the button is disabled, you may not edit or create a\
shadow file -- the file is not an application.
Ok This button applies any changes that have been made to\
the file name and permissions.
Cancel This button cancels the dialog.
Help This button summons help for the dialog, which you are\
viewing now.

\P1.5\\S1.5\\cCopy (Files|Copy, F2)\f
Also see \={1200\Dragging and Dropping Files\=} for information on copying\
files and directories by drag-and-drop.
The Copy command copies the currently selected files and directories from\
one location to another. It first brings up a dialog asking where to\
copy the files. The first line of the dialog shows the name of the file to\
be copied or, if there is more than one file, the string ``Selected Files''.\
The second line displays the name of the current directory, from which the\
files will be copied (it is truncated if necessary).
In the text element, enter the destination directory for the file(s) to be\
copied. Paths wider than the element may be entered; the text may be\
scrolled with the arrow buttons to its right.
Choose Ok when you are ready to copy, or Cancel if you wish to cancel the\
operation.
At this point, FM will begin to copy the files and directories. It will\
bring up an \soperation progress\s dialog which shows you the name of each\
file as it is copied. Click the Cancel button in this dialog at\
any time to abort the operation.
If copy confirmation is on, you will be requested to confirm the copying of\
each file. The choices should be self-explanatory -- copy this file; copy\
all files (without asking for confirmation any more); don't copy this file\
(but continue the operation); and cancel the operation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message\
and asked whether to continue with the rest of the files.

\!\n420\\tMove command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kMove Files\\b15,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cMove (Files|Move, F3)\f
Also see \={1200\Dragging and Dropping Files\=} for information on moving\
files and directories by drag-and-drop.
The Move command moves the currently selected files and directories from\
one location to another. Cross-filesystem and even cross-node moves are\
permitted. It first brings up a dialog asking you where to move the files.\
The first line of the dialog shows the name of the file to be moved or, if\
there is more than one file, the string ``Selected Files''. The second line\
displays the name of the current directory, from which the files will be\
moved (it is truncated if necessary). In the text element, enter\
the destination directory for the file(s) to be moved. A path wider than\
the element may be eneterd; the element may be scrolled with the arrow\
buttons to its right.
Choose Ok when you are ready to move, or Cancel if you wish to cancel the\
operation.
At this point, FM will begin to move the files and directories. It will\
bring up an \soperation progress\s dialog which shows the name of each\
file as it is moved. Click the Cancel button in this dialog at any time to\
abort the operation.
If move confirmation is on, you will be requested to confirm the moving of\
each file. The choices should be self-explanatory -- move this file; move\
all files (without asking for confirmation any more); don't move this file\
(but continue the operation); and cancel the operation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message\
and asked whether to continue with the rest of the files.

\!\n425\\tLink command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kLink Files\\b20,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cLink (Files|Link, F4)\f
Also see \={1200\Dragging and Dropping Files\=} for information on linking\
files and directories by drag-and-drop.
The Link command links the currently selected files and directories from\
one location to another. You are first prompted as to where to link the\
files. The first line of the dialog shows the name of the file to be linked\
or, if there is more than one file, the string ``Selected Files''. The\
second line displays the name of the current directory, from which the files\
will be linked (it is truncated if necessary). In the text element, enter\
the destination directory for the file(s) to be linked. A path wider than\
the element may be entered; the element can be scrolled with the arrow\
buttons to its right. Choose Ok when are ready to link, or Cancel if you\
wish to cancel the operation.
You are then prompted for the link type -- ``hard'' link, or ``symbolic''\
link. Choose the link type and click Ok, or click Cancel to cancel. Note\
that even if hard links are chosen, all directories will be symbolically\
linked anyway (QNX doesn't support hard links to directories), and all\
cross-filesystem links will also be symbolic links.
At this point, FM will begin to link the files and directories. It will\
bring up an \soperation progress\s dialog which shows the name of each\
file as it is linked. Click the Cancel button in this dialog at any time\
to abort the operation.
If link confirmation is on, you will be requested to confirm the linking of\
each file. The choices should be self-explanatory -- link this file; link\
all files (without asking for confirmation any more); don't link this file\
(but continue the operation); and cancel the operation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message\
and asked whether to continue with the rest of the files.

\!\n430\\tDuplicate command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kDuplicate Files\\kCopy Files\\b25,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cDuplicate (Files|Duplicate, F6)\f
The Duplicate command creates duplicate copies of the currently selected\
files and directories. It prepends to each name ``Copy_of_'', and then\
creates the duplicate. For example, if there is a file ``hello_world.c'',\
and a directory named ``sub_dir'', then FM will create duplicates named\
``Copy_of_hello_world.c'', and ``Copy_of_sub_dir'', respectively. The\
duplicates can then be renamed if you wish.
Immediately upon choosing the command, FM will begin to duplicate the files\
and directories. It will bring up an \soperation progress\s dialog which\
shows you the name of each file as it is duplicated. Click the Cancel\
button in this dialog at any time to abort the operation.
If duplicate confirmation is on, you will be requested to confirm the\
duplication of each file. The choices should be self-explanatory --\
duplicate this file; duplicate all files (without asking for confirmation\
any more); don't duplicate this file (but continue the operation); and\
cancel the operation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message\
and asked whether to continue with the rest of the files.

\!\n435\\tRename command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kRename File\\b30,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cRename (Files|Rename, F7)\f
The Rename command permits you to change the name of the current file (unless\
it is the parent directory entry).
You will be prompted for the new name of the file. The first line in the\
dialog displays the file's original name; the text element below contains\
the file's original name, ready for you to edit it. Click Ok when you are\
ready to change the name, or Cancel to cancel the name change.
If an error occurs, you will be notified with a descriptive error message.

\!\n440\\tDelete command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kDelete Files\\kDestroy Files\\b35,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cDelete (Files|Delete, Del)\f
The Delete command deletes the currently selected files and directories from\
the filesystem.
Upon choosing the command, FM will begin to delete the files and directories.\
It will bring up an \soperation progress\s dialog which shows you the name of\
each file as it is deleted. Click the Cancel button in this dialog at any\
time to abort the operation.
If delete confirmation is on (\sHIGHLY\s recommended), you will be requested\
to confirm the deletion of each file. The choices should be self-explanatory\
-- delete this file; delete all files (without asking for further\
confirmation); don't delete this file (but continue the operation); and\
cancel the operation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message\
and asked whether to continue with the rest of the files.

\!\n445\\tNew Directory command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFile Manipulation\\kFile Operations\\kFiles Menu\\kNew Directory\\kCreate Directory\\kCreate New Directory\\b40,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cNew Directory (Files|New Directory, F8)\f
The New Directory command creates a new subdirectory in the current directory.
You will be prompted for the name for the new directory. Type in the name,\
and click Ok to create it, or Cancel to cancel the creation.
If an error occurs, you will be prompted with a descriptive error message.

\!\n450\\tSelect Files command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFiles Menu\\kSelecting Files\\b45,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cSelect Files (Files|Select|Select Files, Ctrl+S)\f
The Select Files command is a very powerful command which permits you to\
select or deselect files which match a given pattern.
You will be prompted for the file pattern. Enter the pattern (any standard\
file matching pattern), or choose a pattern from the complete list of file\
associations presented in the dialog.
Below the list of patterns are two buttons which control the type of\
selection performed: Select all matching files, or Deselect all matching files.
Below those buttons is a checkbox. If checked, all other files will be\
deselected before performing the operation; otherwise, the selection state\
of all other files remains unchanged.
Choose Ok to select/deselect the given files, or Cancel to cancel the\
operation.

\!\n455\\tSelect All command\\kCommands\\kManipulating Files\\kFiles Menu\\kSelecting Files\\b50,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cSelect All (Files|Select|Select All, Ctrl+A)\f
The Select All command selects all files in the current directory.

\!\n460\\tOptions command\\kCommands\\kFiles Menu\\kConfirmation Options\\kOptions\\kSettings\\b55,FilesMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cOptions (Files|Options)\f
The Options command sets the confirmation options for FM -- which file\
operations to be confirmed by the user.
The list of operations to confirm on should be primarily self-explanatory --\
\={415\copy\=}, \={420\move\=}, \={425\link\=}, \={430\duplicate\=}, and\
\={440\delete\=}. Also, there are \={615\text conversion\=} -- confirm on\
conversion of files from one text format to another; mouse operation --\
confirm on \={1200\drag-and-drop operation\=} with the mouse; and file\
overwrite -- confirm when a new file will overwrite a pre-existant file.
Of these, it is \sHIGHLY\s recommended that you turn on at least Delete,\
Mouse Operation, and File Overwrite; use your discretion for the others.
Choose Ok to save the confirmation options in FM's configuration file, or\
Cancel to cancel the changes.
