FM's window is officially termed a ``Directory Window'': a window that\
views the contents of a directory.
At the top of the window is the \stitle bar\s. The title bar contains\
several buttons and the window's title. The button to the far left is called\
the \swindow button\s. If you click the MENU mouse button (generally the\
right button) on the window button, a menu will pop up listing a set of\
commands you can perform on the window. The two buttons to the right turn\
the window into an icon (``iconify'' it), and make the window the size of\
the full screen (``maximize'' it), respectively.
The title of the window contains the full path of the directory being\
viewed, followed by a colon and the file \={705\filter pattern\=}\
(e.g. ``//20/usr/projects/system2: *'').
Below the title bar are two lines, which comprise the directory window's\
\={300\menus\=}.
The main portion of the window is the \spane\s. The pane contains the\
\={110\list(s) of files\=}. The appearance of the list depends on the\
current directory window \sview format\s.
Below the pane is an information bar. This presents four pieces of\
information: on the left, the number of files shown in the current\
directory and their total size; on the right, the number of selected\
files and their total size.
At the corners of the window are small L-shaped ``gadgets''. These are\
the \sresize handles\s for the window. The window can be resized in any\
direction by clicking them and dragging them in the appropriate direction.\
To move the window, click on the title bar and drag it around with the mouse.

FM's window pane contains a list(s) of files in the current directory that\
you are viewing. The exact content and appearance of the pane depends on\
the current \={700\\sview format\s\=} of the pane. The available view\
formats are the directory browser, which presents several columns of files\
for multiple directories along a path; list format, which presents a list of\
detailed information on the files in the current directory; and icon format,\
which presents a list of large icons and filenames for the files in the\
current directory.
