\P1.5\\S1.5\\cUsing the Directory Browser\f
FM's Directory Browser view format shows multiple columns of files, each for\
a different directory along a given path. For instance, if you are viewing\
the path //15/windows/apps/Calc, then the Browser will show in several\
columns, the //15/, //15/windows, //15/windows/apps, and\
//15/windows/apps/Calc directories, respectively. If the number of lists\
is too wide to fit in the window, the two arrow buttons at the left side of\
the window can be used to scroll the lists left and right.
Each list consists of a rectangle at the top, which shows the name of the\
directory in the list, and the list of files itself below it. The rectangle\
is actually a button -- click on it, and a list format directory window will\
be opened up for the directory. Ctrl+click will open an icon format\
directory window.
Each file list has a scrollbar to its left that can be used to scroll the\
files. The files themselves appear within the rectangular area of the list.\
They each consist of a small pictorial icon that represents the type of file,\
followed by the file's name, shortened to 16 characters. All directories\
also have an arrow after their name. If it is a subdirectory, the arrow\
points to the right. If the subdirectory is furthermore the directory in\
the next column, it appears raised instead of depressed. If the directory\
is the parent directory (``..''), then its arrow points to the left.

\P1.5\\S1.5\\cUsing Icon Format\f
FM's Icon view format displays a matrix of icons and filenames for all of\
the files being viewed in the current directory. Each icon shows the type\
of file, or in the case of programs and documents, what the program does or\
what the document is. Underneath each icon is displayed the name of the\
file.
Use the scrollbar to the right of the list of files to scroll the area up\
or down.

\P1.5\\S1.5\\cUsing List Format\f
FM's List view format displays a list of all of the files being viewed in\
the current directory. A small icon and the file's full name are always\
displayed; optionally, other information such as file size, date, etc. are\
displayed (see the \={715\List format dialog\=} topic for more information\
on the optional data).
The files are arranged in columns; if more than one column of data can fit\
in the window, then multiple columns of files are displayed.
Use the scrollbar to the right of the list of files to scroll the area up\
or down.
