\P1.5\\S1.5\\cSearch Utility (Utilities|Search, Ctrl+H)\f
The Search Utility is a separate program that can be launched from the file\
manager by choosing the Search Command. Upon choosing this command, or\
running the utility itself, a \={1301\search options dialog\=} will be\
presented.
Once you have chosen what to search for and where, the utility will begin a\
search of the filesystem, searching the specified directory and all of its\
subdirectories for matching files.
Be aware that the search utility stores the pathnames of all of the found\
files in memory. Thus, your search is too general, it could fail due to\
lack of memory.
When the search is complete, a list of matching files will be displayed in\
the search window. You may scroll the list, and select files. (The search\
utility employs the same method used by the file manager to select files --\
see \={1120\Selecting Files With the Mouse\=} for more information.) You\
may \={1200\drag-and-drop\=} files from the search window to another file\
manager window to copy, move, or link some of the found files. However,\
you may not drag files into the search window.
While in the search window, you may click the Search button to begin another\
search. The Help menu contains two items: Help on Search, which brings up\
this topic in the help viewer; and About Search, which presents copyright\
information, and some useful system information.

\P1.5\\S1.5\\cSearch Options Dialog\f
The search options dialog is presented upon choosing the \={1300\search\
command\=} in the file manager, or in running the search utility from the\
command line.
This dialog contains six edit elements. The first element specifies the\
base path for the search that is to be performed. Files will be searched\
for in this subdirectory and all of its subdirectories. A path longer than\
the element may be entered; the arrow buttons to the right of the element\
may be used to scroll the text.
The final five edit elements specify the file matching pattern(s) to search\
for. Multiple patterns, all in the standard UNIX file matching pattern, may\
be entered. A file need match only one of the entered patterns to be\
included in the list. If no patterns are entered, a default pattern of\
``*'' will be used.
When the path and patterns have been chosen, click Ok to launch the search,\
or Cancel to cancel the search.
