\!\n705\\tFilter command\\kCommands\\kView Menu\\kFile Filtering\\kFilter Files\\kFile Pattern\\b0,ViewMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cFilter (View|Filter, Ctrl+F)\f
The Filter command \sfilters\s the files in the current directory window to\
only include those files which match a specific pattern. No matter what\
filter pattern, however, ALL applications and directories will always appear.
Upon choosing this command, you will be prompted for a filter pattern. You\
may enter the pattern in the text element, or choose a pattern from the list\
of file associations below the text element.
Below the list are two checkboxes. The first, ``Display Hidden Files'',\
determines whether hidden files (files whose names begin with a period) are\
shown in the directory listing. By default, they are. The second checkbox,\
``Display Shadow Files'', determines whether shadow files (.*.idsh) are shown\
in the current directory. These files, which are associated with\
applications and contain miscellaneous information such as program icons, are\
not shown by default.
When you have chosen what files to view, click Ok. To cancel the filtering,\
click Cancel.
The current file filter pattern is always shown in the title bar of the\
directory window, after the current directory.

\!\n710\\tSort command\\kCommands\\kView Menu\\kSort Files\\b5,ViewMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cSort (View|Sort)\f
The Sort command sets the sort criteria for the files in the current\
directory window.
Upon choosing this command, a dialog will appear, asking you what sort\
criteria to use. The three radio buttons -- Name, Size, and Time -- specify\
the data on which to sort the files. Below the radio buttons are two\
checkboxes. ``Descending'' determines whether the files should be sorted\
in inverse order. ``Dirs First'' determines whether directories should be\
placed before all other files in the list.
Click Ok to set the current sort order, or Cancel to cancel. You can also\
save the current setting as the default setting by clicking the ``Save As\
Default'' button. All directory windows that are opened up thereafter will\
have that setting as their sort order.

\!\n715\\tList Format command\\kCommands\\kView Menu\\kList Format\\kView Formats\\kFormats\\kDisplay Formats\\b10,ViewMenu\
\P1.5\\S1.5\\cList (View|List, Ctrl+L)\f
The List format command sets the current directory window view format to\
\={202\list format\=}.
Upon choosing this command, you are prompted for what data to view in the\
window. The file icon and name will always be shown, but the other pieces\
of information are optional: size, user-id, group-id, file permissions,\
number of hard links, modification date, and modification time.
When you have chosen the information to view, click Ok to change the view\
format, or click Cancel to cancel. You can also save the current setting\
as the default setting by clicking the ``Save As Default'' button. The\
default setting will be used for new directory windows.

directory window. This is useful if the contents of the directory have\
somehow changed due to another user or program.
