InterDesk's shadow file editor edits \+{10\shadow files\+}. You can use\
it to create a shadow file for an application, or to edit an existing\
shadow file. You can set the file type, and design the file icons using\
a powerful symbol editor.

A shadow file is a file associated with an application. It contains data\
used by InterDesk's applications to determine the type of program (whether\
it runs on a terminal, using QNX Windows, etc.), and the icon to display\
for a program. Using this facility, a programmer or user can define for a\
program an icon that will thereafter show up in InterDesk's File Manager\
and Application Dock.
A shadow file's name is in the form ``.\sfilename\s.idsh'', where \sfilename\s\
is the name of the program. For example, if a program is named\
``hello_world'', its shadow file would be called ``.hello_world.idsh''.

The shadow file editor's main window contains four areas: the application\
type button, the control panel, the icon editor panel, and the icon\
conversion panel.
The application type button displays the current type of application\
(runs on a terminal, uses QNX Windows, etc.). The application type can be\
changed by clicking with the MENU mouse button on the application type\
button. A menu will pop up, from which the application type can be selected.
\P2\The control panel contains the following buttons:\P1.5\
\I\ILoad	This button loads a shadow file. It pops up a file list\
dialog from which you may choose a shadow file to edit.
Save	This button saves the current shadow file. If it does not have a\
name, you are prompted first for the name, just as if you had chosen the\
``Save As'' button.
Save As	This button saves the current shadow file under a user-specified\
name. A file dialog pops up, in which you may choose the directory to save\
in. Then, you may type the file name in the edit box at the bottom of the\
dialog, and click the ``Save'' button in the file dialog.
Help	This button pops up the shadow file editor's help, which you are\
now viewing.
About	This button brings up an about dialog with copyright and version\
information for the shadow file editor. It also includes some useful\
system information.
Quit	This button quits the shadow file editor. You are first prompted\
whether you wish to save the shadow file.
\U\U\P2\The icon editor panel contains the following buttons:\P1.5\
\I\I\I\I\IEdit QNXWin Icon	This button pops up the\
\={200\QNX Windows icon editor\=}, which lets you edit the QNX Windows\
icon within the shadow file.
Edit Photon Icon	This button pops up the \={300\Photon icon editor\=},\
which lets you edit the Photon/X Windows icon within the shadow file.
\U\U\U\U\U\P2\The icon conversion panel contains the following buttons:\P1.5\
\I\I\I\I\IQNXWin -> Photon	This button converts the QNX\
Windows icon, storing the result in the Photon/X Windows icon. You are\
first prompted as to whether you are sure you want to perform the conversion.
Photon -> QNXWin	This button converts the Photon/X Windows icon, storing\
the result in the QNX Windows icon. You are first prompted as to whether\
you are sure you want to perform the conversion. It is not recommended\
that you convert the Photon/X icon to the QNX Windows icon, due to the\
icon truncation and color approximation that will necessarily occur.
