SNMPTRAPD(1) USER COMMANDS SNMPTRAPD(1)

NAME
snmptrapd - Receive and log snmp trap messages.

SYNOPSIS
     snmptrapd [ -p ]

DESCRIPTION
Snmptrapd is an SNMP application that receives and logs snmp
trap messages sent to the SNMP-TRAP port (162) on the local
     machine.

If the -p option is given, _s_n_m_p_t_r_a_p_d will print it's mes-
sages to the standard output. Otherwise it will use _s_y_s_-
_l_o_g(8) to log messages. These syslog messages are sent with
the level of LOG_WARNING, and are if available (usually on
4.3 systems) are sent to the LOG_LOCAL0 facility.

The log messages are of the form:
     _S_e_p _1_7 _2_2:_3_9:_5_2 _s_u_f_f_e_r_n _s_n_m_p_t_r_a_p_d: _1_2_8._2._1_3._4_1: _C_o_l_d _S_t_a_r_t
     _T_r_a_p (_0) _U_p_t_i_m_e: _8 _d_a_y_s, _0:_3_5:_4_6

_S_n_m_p_t_r_a_p_d must be run as root so that UDP port 162 can be
     opened.

Adding a "-d" to the argument list will cause the applica-
tion to dump input and output packets.
