1. Introduction
===============

This file describes how to install TclPro on the following
supported platforms:

  Operating System	Architecture	Version
  ---------------- ------------ -------
  Irix SGI (Mips)	6.3+
  HP-UX HP (PARISC)	10.20+
Linux Intel Red Hat 5.0+ or SuSE 6.0+ *
  Solaris Sun (Sparc)	2.5+
  Windows Intel 95/98/NT 4.0+

* Note -- Scriptics believes that TclPro will work with other
Linux distributions, such as Caldera Linux, that use glibc2.
However, Scriptics does not support these other Linux operating
  systems at this time.

*** Important ***

If at any time you need to move any of the files or folders
containing files in the TclPro installation to a new location,
you should uninstall and reinstall TclPro.

After installing, consult the README file in the TclPro installation
directory for more information about using TclPro.

2. If You Have a Previous Version of TclPro Installed
=====================================================

If you are upgrading from a prior version of TclPro, we recommend that
you install and use the new version before uninstalling the prior
version. After installing this release, please see the sections on
Licensing and Upgrading in the README file of your new installation
for information on how to gracefully uninstall prior versions of
TclPro.

If you are upgrading from an alpha or beta version of TclPro 1.3, we
recommend the following before installing this release: on Windows you
should uninstall the prior version before installing the final 1.3
release. On Unix, you should remove the TclPro Debugger preference
files that match ~/.TclPro/1.3/* from your filesystem. If you
previously installed Scriptics License Server, please see the sections
on Licensing and Upgrading in the README file of your new installation
for information on how to gracefully uninstall prior versions of
TclPro.

3. Installing TclPro on Windows
===============================

* Note -- If you are installing on a Windows NT system, you should
be the Administrator user, or a user with Administrator
  privileges, to install TclPro.

After downloading the TclPro Windows installer from the Scriptics
web site:

1) Run the TclPro Windows installer.

2) Select an installation directory for TclPro 1.3. You
shouldn't install TclPro 1.3 in the same directory as a
previous version of TclPro. For example, if you already have
TclPro 1.2 installed in C:\Program Files\TclPro1.2, you should
install TclPro 1.3 in a separate directory such as
   C:\Program Files\TclPro1.3.

3) The installer installs TclPro in the directory you select.
Afterwards, it displays the TclPro License Manager for you to enter
your license information. Enter your Named User License key and
your name. Please see the README file for details on TclPro
licensing. You can change your license information at a later time
by running the TclPro License Manager (select the Windows Start
   Menu | Programs | TclPro1.3 | TclPro License Manager).

4) Acrobat Reader 3.0 or later is required to view or print the PDF
versions of the TclPro User's Guide and Getting Started with
TclPro. You can download a free copy of Acrobat Reader from our
   Web site:

        http://www.scriptics.com/support/acrobat.html

5) If you wish to do C program development with Tcl, you need the
tclprodev13.zip file, which provides development libraries for Tcl,
and Tk, header files, and sample source files. You can download
this file from the same location where you downloaded the rest of
TclPro. You need to install this component only if you want to
develop custom Tcl interpreters. If you obtain this zip file,
extract it into the TclPro 1.3 installation directory.

4. Installing TclPro on UNIX
============================

TclPro is available on the Scriptics Web site as a compressed tar
file. After you download the file:

1) Uncompress the file, then untar it to create the tclpro<version>
   directory.

2) Run the installer by running the shell script:

	setup.sh

3) Select an installation directory for TclPro 1.3. You shouldn't
install TclPro 1.3 in the same directory as a previous version
of TclPro. For example, if you already have TclPro 1.2 installed
in /opt/scriptics/TclPro1.2, you should install TclPro 1.3 in
a separate directory such as /opt/scriptics/TclPro1.3.

* Note -- You must have permission to install to the directory
that you select. Typically, installing into /opt requires root
  permission.

4) Select the TclPro components you want to install:

  - "Basic" everything you need to run the TclPro tools,
including documentation, demos, Tcl and Tk libraries, and the
tools themselves. You should unselect "Basic" only if you have
previously installed TclPro 1.3 and are running the
installation program again only to install additional
    components.

  - "C Development Libraries" installs development libraries for
Tcl, and Tk, header files, and sample source files. You need to
install this component only if you want to develop custom Tcl
    interpreters.

5) The installer installs TclPro in the directory you select.
Afterwards, it displays the TclPro License Manager for you to enter
your license information. Enter your Named User License key and
your name. Please see the README file for details on TclPro
licensing. You can change your license information at a later time
by running the TclPro License Manager (run prolicense from the
   command line).

6) Acrobat Reader 3.0 or later is required to view or print the PDF
versions of the TclPro User's Guide and Getting Started with
TclPro. You can download a free copy of Acrobat Reader from our
   Web site:

        http://www.scriptics.com/support/acrobat.html

5. Running TclPro Tools
=======================

Please see the README file for details on how to set your PATH
environment variable and run the TclPro tools that you've just
installed.
