        1.0 PHYSICAL INSTALLATION

The IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA adapter must be
physically installed and configured before you begin the
driver installation. If you have not already installed
the adapter, please refer to the product documentation
            that was shipped with it.

        2.0 DRIVER INSTALLATION

The general procedure for installing network device
drivers for Windows NT is documented in the Microsoft
Windows NT System Guide (Document No. 36327-0593),
chapter 5. The main points are summarized below:

2.1 Log on as an administrator

In order to make changes to the network, you need to
be logged on as a member of the administrator group
                for your computer.

2.2 Select the Main program group

After you log on to Windows NT, you should see
several program group icons in the Program Manager
window. Select the Main program group by double
clicking it with the left mouse button.

2.3 Select the Control Panel application

Double click on the Control Panel icon. If for some
reason the Control Panel icon is missing, you can
enter "control" on a command line to initiate the
program directly. You can get a command line prompt
by selecting the MS DOS Command Prompt icon.

            2.4 Select the Network application

Once the Control Panel window is displayed, select
the Network application. You should then see a
Network Settings window having the following buttons:

                Change (Computer Name)
                Change (Workgroup)
                Add Software
                Add Adapter
                Configure
                Update Remove
                OK
                Close
                Bindings
                Networks
                Help

There should be two list boxes displayed in the lower
left of the window. The one on the top is labeled
"Installed Network Software" and the one on the
bottom is labeled "Installed Adapter Cards". The
bottom one is the only one you will be concerned
with. When you are done with installation, this list
box should contain entries for the adapters you have
                installed.

            2.5 Click on Add Adapter

When you are ready to begin, click on the "Add
Adapter ..." button (NOT "Add Software ...").

You should see the message "Setup is preparing network
card choices ..." displayed in a window. This may take
10 to 30 seconds, depending on your configuration.

            2.6 Select "OTHER"

After the setup program has located all network card
choices, it will display a window with the title "Add
Network Adapter". In this window, you should see a
combo box with a number of manufacturers names.
Click on the down arrow to browse the list. The last
selection should be "<Other> Requires disk from
manufacturer". Click on this selection to highlight
it then click on the "CONTINUE" button.

2.7 Insert the diskette in the A: drive

You should next see a window with the title "Insert
Diskette". Put the IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA
Adapter Device Driver installation diskette in the A:
drive. The entry field should already be filled in.
If it is not, enter "A:\". When you are ready, click
                on the "OK" button.

2.8 Select "IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter"
                    software

When this "Select OEM Option" window is displayed,
you should see one selection in the list box, "IBM
Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA Adapter". Click on the "OK"
                button.

You should next see several work-in-progress windows
that indicate that the driver and its supporting
files are being copied to your computer's hard disk.
This should take about 10 - 20 seconds. The file
                that is installed should be:

                            IBMTOK4.SYS

            2.9 Enter configuration parameters

The next window you see will be a dialog box prompting
you for the network address. If you will be using a
locally administered address, enter it in this field.
If you do not enter a network address, the driver will
use the burned-in address from the adapter.

When you are finished examining or modifying the
parameter values, click on the OK button.

2.10 Click on OK in Network Settings

You should see the Network Settings panel again. This
time, there should be an entry for the adapter you just
added in the "Installed Adapter Cards" list box.

IMPORTANT: You must click on the OK button at the top
right of this window to complete the installation.

After you click on OK, you should shortly see a message
that indicates you need to shut down and reboot. By
responding "YES" to this message, Windows NT will
automatically shut down and reboot for you.

When the system comes back up, you should be able to
log on and use the IBM Auto 16/4 Token-Ring ISA
                adapter.
